How avid Hotel Reconnected Me to Oklahoma City
A year ago, my life changed drastically.
I suddenly became a single parent after 19 years of marriage. I felt unsure of how my future would unfold.
One of the big things that I learned while I was healing was that I had really lost touch with my city and community while married. Without even realizing I had done so, I’d isolated myself. While I had a loyal, tight online community throughout the country, I did not have the same dynamic locally, and naturally, that made me feel even more alone.
That had to change. So, I made a goal for myself.
CONNECT WITH MY CITY
For my health. For my kid’s health. For introducing more good into our lives.
Around the same I committed to this new goal, I received a partnership opportunity from IHG for a new hotel they were opening in Oklahoma City.

AVID GRAND OPENING
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen the story I shared while at the grand opening of avid a few weeks ago!
I was able to get a sneak peek of the lobby at the grand opening, which was super trendy and totally ME.
In addition to the invitation to the grand opening, avid hosted a weekend stay for me to explore Oklahoma City. Perfect timing in my life, right?
THE ROOMS AT AVID
Much like the exterior of avid, the rooms are sleek and modern, yet everything that a business, solo, or family traveler can appreciate.
Beautiful, clean bathrooms with J.R. Watkins products (one of my favs).
Also? My room had was a wealth of wall hooks. Why don’t more hotel rooms have more hooks? avid does. 🙂
A hotel room with a mini-fridge is always a plus for me when I’m traveling alone or with the kiddos.
OKLAHOMA CITY
I asked my OKC audience for recommendations during my “staycation” in the city, and I GOT A TON OF IDEAS!
I mean, the coffee shops alone…
In fact, I received so much feedback that I couldn’t possibly do them all, ha!
I spent some time in the Plaza District, just a few miles south of the avid hotel, which includes one of my favorite OKC boutiques, Out on a Limb.
Jewelry, bags, home decor, candles…all the things I’m a sucker for. Like this necklace, I may have purchased…
And as far as food goes, the Plaza has some special restaurants, too. For this visit, I had a spicy ramen soup from Goro that was AMAZE.
My weekend stay just so happened around Halloween, so I knew I had to dress up and do something fun. Fortunately, the Oklahoma City Zoo was hosting its first-ever “Haunt the Zoo – All Grown Up” event, so my bestie and I got into character and had a blast!
Throughout my staycation weekend, avid keep me caffeinated each morning with their 24/7 ground to brew coffee machine and comfy each night with their black-out curtains and super cozy beds (with firm and soft pillows to choose from).
For a couple of days, I reconnected with my city. And it felt good. I am grateful that avid provided me the opportunity to do so. Now, to get through the rest of my Oklahoma City recommendations I still have left to explore. 🙂
